Public Safety Dispatcher

Starting Salary:         $18.02 - $20.04 per hour DOQ

 The Position

The individual hired for this vital role will answer incoming emergency calls for Police, EMS and Fire to help keep the public safe.  Will perform a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information. Dispatchers are a key component to the safety of our community. They need empathy, compassion, and the ability to keep calm in distressing situations. No experience? Our staff work side-by-side with new dispatchers to help them reach their potential. New hires receive hands on training in order to become APCO certified in Telecommunications and Emergency Medical Dispatch.

 Location and Hours 

This position is located at the Alliance Police Department and includes 24-hour coverage serving the public. This position involves shift work covering nights and weekends.

 About the Position Type

This position is full-time and benefit-earning. The City also offers supplemental insurance along with a Health Savings Account, in which the City contributes up to $140 per month toward the employee’s qualifying HSA to help cover out-of-pocket expenses.  

 In this Position, you Will

  • Operate and monitor telephones and radios and accurately maintain communication logs.
  • Receive the public and answer questions in person and on the phone.
  • Dispatch police and other emergency response personnel.

Need to Have

  • Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting or bookkeeping, and
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related    education and experience.
  • Passing Typing Test score of at least 30 WPM and 10-Code assessment. Contact the City of Alliance Human Resource Office to schedule.

 Special Requirements

Must have no felony convictions, ability to become Certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher within one year and become a Notary Public. Applicants must pass typing test before being considered for the position.
